Background
The World Fuel Cell Council (WFCC) was established since 1991, by leading actors of the Platinum industry, following major studies and research showing the potentialof fuel cells as a major component in the future clean energy and transport industries.
In response to concerns that Europe would not be ready for the commercial introduction of fuel cells in the same time frame as other regions of the world such as North America and Japan, leading fuel cells industry players called for an active and continuing engagement of the industry to shape public policy and support and consequently, decided to create FuelCellEurope, under the aegis of the World Fuel Cell Council in 2002.
In 2004, FuelCellEurope was merged with the European Fuel Cell Group, a parallel industry association, to consolidate the voice of the fuel cell industry in Europe and increase awareness and strongly encourage public and private investment in development, demonstration and deployment activities
The World Fuel Cells Council has ceased to operate as a separate entit since 2006, having achieved its primary goals and established industry association in the US, Germany, Italy and the UK. All activities and efforts are now undertaken by FuelCellEurope.
