New FP7 calls published for Energy and Tranport
On July 20, 2010, the European Commission published several calls for proposals within the Specific Programme ‘Cooperation’ of the 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7), addressing notably the Energy and Transport priorities. In addition several cross-thematic calls including calls within the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) "Green Cars" have been published.

EU announced multi-billion fund to boost research and innovation
The EU commissioner for research and innovation, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, announced on 19th July, the creation of a fund doted with nearly €6.4 billion to invest in research and development, as part of EU flagship initiative "Innovative Union" within the 2020 Strategy.

The first European Industrial Initiatives of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) were launched on 3 June 2010 in Madrid. It concerns the European Industrial Initiatives for Wind, Solar, Electricity Grids and Carbon Capture & Storage.

The EU competitiveness council confirms hydrogen vehicles as ultra low-carbon option
In its conclusions on the EU Clean and Energy Efficient Vehicles Strategy, the EU Competitiveness Council confirmed that “hydrogen vehicles remain a valid ultra-low-carbon mobility option in the medium term perspective, as affordability of the car and of the fuel is achieved".

UK MPs call for more support to hydrogen road transport
UK Members of the Parliament are calling the government for more support to hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles in a report published last week by the cross-party Energy and Climate Change Select Committee on "Low carbon technologies in a green economy”.

The London Hydrogen Action Plan was released on the 26th of March, unveiling the London "Hydrogen network" to help accelerate the wider use of this zero-polluting, zero-carbon energy in the capital by 2012.

First JTI Call results are out!
The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) just published the results of the first JTI Calls launched in 2008 and negotiated during 2009. 16 projects were approved, covering all the different applications areas.

Financing plan for low carbon tech unveiled!
Long-awaited funding proposals for the EU's Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) have just been unveiled by the European Commission, calling for a shift of money towards supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy in the next EU budget. The energy research budget should be increased to €50 billion over the next ten years. This would require yearly flows from both the public and private sectors to jump from their current €3bn to €8bn, it calculated.

Deadline for the JTI 2009 Call is approaching
The 2009 Calls for proposals of the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (JTI) is closing very soon.
Members of FuelCellEurope interested in participating to the call should finalise and submit on time their proposals.

The deadline is on 15th October 2009 at 17.00h (Brussels time)
